Per the NFL's transactions report, the Arizona Cardinals worked out 2022 Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley on April 11.
Huntley is a free agent after spending last season with the Miami Dolphins as the backup quarterback to Tua Tagovailoa. In five games last season (all starts), Huntley completed 64.7% of his throws (86-for-133) with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Cardinals have three quarterbacks on their roster: Starter Kyler Murray and backups Jacoby Brissett and Clayton Tune. Huntley's pass-to-rush ratio as a starter (27.1/7.5) is more similar to Murray's (33.9/6.1) than Brissett's is as a starter (31.1/3.8).
This past season, Huntley averaged a career-high 6.2 yards per attempt through the air and 5.2 yards per attempt on the ground.
In the five games he started (1-4 record), Brissett averaged 5.16 yards per attempt through the air and 4.25 yards per attempt on the ground last season for the New England Patriots. He completed 58.52% of his passes.
Tune has played in 13 games for Arizona the past two seasons, completing 14 of 23 pass attempts for 70 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Cardinals valued Huntley enough to give him a look, and he could be a cheap option to compete with Brissett and Tune for the primary backup role, if last season is any indication of his current market.
Miami signed him off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad on Sept. 16, 2024, and paid him a $1.125 million base salary.
