Chiefs scouting report: Alabama Crimson Tide G Tyler Booker
The Kansas City Chiefs plan to test former second round pick Kingsley Suamataia at left guard this coming season. General manager Brett Veach should draft competition for Suamataia to ensure the team fields the best offensive line possible. Kansas City could form one of the most formidable guard pairings in the NFL by selecting Alabama Crimson Tide star Tyler Booker in the 2025 NFL draft.
As NFL defenses become lighter in the box, Andy Reid’s offense could pivot into emphasizing the ground game and dominating the trenches with Booker and Trey Smith. Booker is a massive 6’4 5/8’’, 321 lb. force of nature with long 34 1/2’’ arms and 11’’ hands. He’s an imposing lineman with the play strength to anchor against power or generate displacement.
Booker has experience playing at both guard spots, and he played left tackle against USF in 2024. His thick trunk and base present an immovable obstacle for many defenders. Booker re-anchors against speed to power and uses his pad level and hand placement to win the leverage battle.

Booker’s hand usage still needs to develop to maximize his length, but it already looks significantly better than two seasons ago. He posts some instant wins in pass protection by hammering the pass rusher with a powerful punch. Booker needs to keep his hands tighter to his frame early in the play and replace them quicker when the defender swipes them away.
Booker needs to master his hand usage and weaponize his length to mitigate concerns about his footspeed. He lacks the agility and quickness to consistently mirror explosive rushers in pass protection. He struggles to recover when he’s late to identify stunts or delayed blitzes.
Booker uncoils from his stance and drives power through his hips in the run game. He uses his leverage to drive defenders out of gaps and seal run lanes. Booker occasionally lunges into blocks or gets caught leaning on defenders. This compromises his balance and leads to some clean losses. Despite his size, Booker moves well on gap runs and takes good angles. He’s a monster on down blocks.
Booker lacks the agility and foot speed to replace Joe Thuney’s elite play in pass protection, but he offers more power in the trenches on run plays. Analysts remain divided on Booker’s draft projection. Some believe he won’t last until Kansas City’s pick, while others find his lack of elite athleticism concerning enough to drop him down draft boards.
