Chiefs scouting report: Minnesota Golden Gophers WR Daniel Jackson

The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed Hollywood Brown to strengthen their wide receiver room for 2025. The team needs to continue adding receiving threats to elevate the offense’s ceiling and generate more high scoring performances. Several Day 3 prospects in the 2025 NFL draft possess the skill sets to mesh with Andy Reid’s offense quickly.

Minnesota Golden Gophers wide receiver Daniel Jackson primarily played out wide in college but also gained experience operating in the slot. He’ll kick inside at the NFL level because of the physical limitations created by his 5’10 3/4’’, 193 lb. frame.

Jackson struggles against physical corners in press coverage but displays nice suddenness and footspeed in his release. He deploys a diverse release package but needs to incorporate his hands more often to keep cornerbacks out of his pads.

Jackson uses tempo and route fakes to manipulate the defender’s leverage. He lacks ideal speed but accelerates quickly enough to stack defenders that bite on his route fakes. His quick footwork and sudden cuts help him separate against man coverage at the top of the stem. Sometimes, Jackson uses too much fancy footwork that slows him down or makes him vulnerable to mid-route jams.

Jackson is a high level route runner who quickly decelerates and sinks his hips to make sharp cuts. He stems his routes inside before snapping across the cornerback’s face. His understanding of leverage helps him create separation despite lacking impressive strength and speed. Jackson relocates and works continuously to find holes in zone coverage.

Despite getting virtually no buzz, I still think Daniel Jackson is the most underrated route runner in this class.

Jackson suffers from concentration drops but tracks the ball well and plays with impressive body control at the catch point. He fearlessly works over the middle of the field and controls catches through contact. Jackson lacks the explosiveness and power to create long runs after the catch but uses his shiftiness to make defenders miss one-on-one in space.

Jackson’s route running and toughness make him a viable fourth option at wide receiver for the Chiefs. He projects as an early career special teams contributor who could play a larger role on offense as he builds his release package and eliminates wasted movement from his route.
