Chiefs scouting report: Kansas State Wildcats CB Jacob Parrish
The Kansas City Chiefs recently signed Kristian Fulton to stabilize their cornerback situation across from All-Pro Trent McDuffie. The team features a young and deep collection of cornerbacks but lacks a high ceiling option with ideal long-term upside. General manager Brett Veach could target a star outside corner or nickel in the 2025 NFL draft.
Kansas State Wildcats cornerback Jacob Parrish is an aggressive but undersized cornerback. His densely built 5’9 3/4’’, 191 lb. frame doesn’t meet the league’s usual thresholds for an outside corner. However, the Chiefs know size isn’t everything. McDuffie measured 5’10 3/4’’, 193 lbs. at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, and Parrish’s arms are more than an inch longer than McDuffie’s.
Parrish played almost exclusively on the outside at Kansas State. He plays above his size in press coverage, delivering aggressive two-handed jams that stall and re-route receivers at the line of scrimmage. He compresses outside releases along the sideline to eliminate throwing windows. Parrish quickly closes space from soft shoe press or off-man to get in phase and make receivers uncomfortable.

Parrish’s arm length limits his ability to jam larger receivers. He needs to refine the accuracy of his punches in press coverage. Receivers sometimes catch him flat-footed and stack him downfield. Parrish recovers well after losing early in the play, but this could become a larger issue in the NFL. His aggression and grabbiness will draw penalties at the next level.
Parrish reads the quarterback’s eyes and flashes the impressive anticipation to jump comebacks, curls, digs and slants. His closing burst helps him undercut routes for interceptions. Parrish quickly closes on receivers to limit opportunities after the catch.
Parrish triggers downhill to attack screens and swing passes. He’s fearless stepping down to fit the run. Parrish competes with stalk blockers and finishes one-on-one tackles in space with good balance and form. His play strength causes issues stacking and shedding stalk blocks and leads to him sliding off some tackle attempts.
Most teams value slot corners less than their outside counterparts, but the Chiefs have experience drafting nickel defenders and transitioning them into outside roles after they adjust to the league’s level of competition. They could take this approach with Parrish to form a young, elite cornerback duo.
