Saints free agent pickup, Louisiana native eager to embrace the pregame 'Who Dat' chant
The New Orleans Saints' "Who Dat" chant has been a crucial part of the fan experience for nearly the entire existence of the franchise, officially being tracked back to the 1980s. It gives fans a uniting experience every time they walk into the Caesars Superdome and a memory that will live with them forever regardless of how many times they take part in it.
Many players have taken part in the tradition, including Drew Brees and Steve Gleason together, Thomas Morstead, Tyrann Mathieu, Jimmy Graham, Bobby Hebert, and so many more over the years.
With it being part of the team's tradition, many Louisiana natives regardless of where they play have a strong love for it, as part of tradition in the state. This is clearly seen in a recent interview with Justin Reid shared by the official Saints channels, as he discussed what the chant means to him as a recent signing.
"I just want to hear the chant, the chant, the chant, that's what I'm looking forward to more than anything. First home game, coming out and hearing the chant, and like," Reid paused, "not being able to hear myself think, 'cause it's so loud. Like, those moments when I was in the stands watching the game, that was always my favorite. Yeah, that 12th man stuff that's real, that's like real-life momentum, you guys really make a difference."
This is great to hear, as both safeties for the Saints are from Louisiana, and know how important football truly is to the state and its fanbase. Knowing the significance behind the "Who Dat" chant and how exciting it truly is to him is a fun storyline entering the 2025 season.
