Apr. 4—GRAND FORKS — Another UND senior is headed to pro hockey.
Center Cameron Berg of West Fargo has signed with the Bridgeport Islanders. He will finish this season on a tryout deal.
Bridgeport is the top minor-league affiliate of the New York Islanders.
Berg's deal is expected to extend into next season, but the Islanders did not clarify details.
Berg scored 12 goals and tallied 22 points in 26 games this season for UND. He missed two months with a foot injury.
Berg, who played two seasons at Omaha before transferring to UND for his final two years, finished his college career with 106 points.
The 6-foot, 205-pound forward helped UND win the 2024 Penrose Cup as National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular-season champions with a 20-goal junior season.
The Islanders selected Berg in the fourth round, No. 125 overall, in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Berg is the fourth UND senior to sign an American Hockey League contract this offseason.
Grand Forks native Jackson Kunz signed with the Abbotsford Canucks, the top affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks. Kunz has yet to make his pro debut.
Jake Schmaltz signed with the Providence Bruins, the top affiliate of the Boston Bruins. Schmaltz has played one game with Providence.
Carter Wilkie signed with the Calgary Wranglers, the top affiliate of the Calgary Flames. Wilkie has played three games with the Wranglers.
UND's other seniors were goalies T.J. Semptimphelter and Kaleb Johnson, forward-defenseman Dane Montgomery and forward Louis Jamernik V.
Montgomery is expected to sign in Europe.
One underclassman has signed a pro deal, too. Sophomore defenseman Caleb MacDonald inked a two-year contract with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.
