The Gab and Juls show on ESPN is a great listen, and they covered the rumours about Milos Kerkez in yesterday’s episode.

We heard as recently as a month ago that the Blues are looking closely at the rising star left back, and on the podcast they discussed the recent rumours that he could be available for a low price this summer.

“Bournemouth have reportedly named their price for Milos Kerkez, and it’s £45m. This sounds like a bargain to me,” Gabriele Marcotti said.

Julien Laurens compared the price to those paid for Ferland Mendy, Malo Gusto and Jurrien Timber and concluded it was good value for a Premier League proven player.

“I think he’s a wonderful talent. I think he’s been the best left back in the country with Antonee Robinson, probably even better in terms of consistency… so Kerkez, I think it makes a lot of sense, and £45m, you invest it and you’re better for it,” the presented added. You notice he doesn’t mention Marc Cucurella in the best left back discussion – many would.

Kerkez a great signing for someone – but maybe not for Chelsea

We would absolutely love Chelsea to buy Kerkez because we think he’s a top player. But there’s no denying that Cucurella has had a really good season, and that £45m is a bid wedge of cash, even if it’s good value.

The team has bigger needs, and there are other areas we should strengthen before thinking about another left back. Striker and left wing seem to be priority.

But there’s no doubt we’ll be missing out on a good player, and that it would be good to have a player to back up Cucurella, for sure, if Renato Veiga isn’t happy to play that role long term.
