Former Cincinnati Bengals standout Andrew Whitworth loves what he sees from the team's current offensive line, especially with sophomore Amarius Mims.
Speaking with Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com recently, Whitworth plenty to say about Mims.
"Fun to watch," Whitworth. "It's just like quarterbacks and every other position. We put so much emphasis on these young guys being whatever it is the very first year. It's such a process. Especially in that offense where literally he just lines up in the shotgun and is put in the most challenging scenarios he's ever going have in his career. That takes time. He's got all the ability in the world. I'm excited."
High praise for Mims, who appeared in 15 games last year, starting 13. He only finished with a 57.8 PFF grade, but the flashes on film and solid showings against some of the best pass rushers in the AFC North suggested major upside.
Mims appeared to have an inside track on a starting job as a rookie over the summer because of those flashes before suffering a slight setback.
Based on Whitworth's comments and everything else now, it's clear that simply being able to stay on the field for a full season might be the biggest hurdle in the way of Mims becoming a franchise tackle for years to come.
