It appears that Osasuna have not given up on its fight against Barcelona over the improper fielding of Inigo Martinez, despite the RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee dismissing their initial complaint.
The La Liga club has strongly criticised Barcelona’s response, calling their comments “cynical and empty,” especially in reference to the ongoing Negreira case investigation.
Osasuna expressed surprise at Barcelona’s suggestion that the club, with its own history, should not question potential fraud, particularly when considering recent events involving the Catalan club.
What is Osasuna’s argument?
Osasuna have made it clear that they will appeal the ruling to the RFEF’s Appeals Committee, stating its disagreement with the decision. The club has based its appeal on three key points:
1. Osasuna argue that the five-day period required under FIFA regulations had not passed when Martinez played for Barcelona, and the RFEF’s communication regarding his withdrawal was solely based on medical reasons, not an official agreement that would exempt the rule.
2. The club disagrees with the Competition Committee’s interpretation that the RFEF implicitly agreed to allow Martinez to play for Barcelona.
Osasuna asserts that no such indication was given in the official communication and that the RFEF’s statements were not in line with this interpretation.
3. Osasuna also question the medical circumstances surrounding Martinez’s recovery, particularly the lack of clarity in the medical reports provided by Barcelona.
They argue that the RFEF’s validation of these reports is inadequate, and the medical details should be examined more thoroughly, given the player’s swift recovery.
“There’s not even any mention in the file or in the Competition resolution that these tests, which the RFEF’s own Chief Medical Officer requested, were performed. Nor does the medical report contain any details,” read their statement.
As it turns out, Osasuna are determined to continue challenging Barcelona’s fielding of Martinez and will appeal to the RFEF’s Appeals Committee, seeking further investigation into the medical aspects and the application of the rules.
