In an official statement, Olympique Lyonnais have confirmed that their manager, Paulo Fonseca, intends to appeal his long-term suspension in front of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). The hearing is set to take place on the 6th of May 2025.
Fonseca was handed a 9-month touchline ban in March after the former Lille coach attacked Benoît Millot. During Les Gones’ 2-1 victory against Brest, the OL head coach squared up to the French referee in uproar against a decision the match official made after being referred to the monitor by VAR.
The Portuguese coach is forbidden from accessing the changing room and the touchline during any French domestic competition. Fonseca is, however, permitted to take charge of Lyon when they compete in the UEFA Europa League.
Any decision made by the CNOSF will not be final but will be referred to the LFP Disciplinary Committee for approval should they deem the ban against the former Roma boss to be too severe.
