STARKVILLE — Mississippi State basketball lost KeShawn Murphy to Auburn in the transfer portal and has gotten trolled on social media because of it.
Shortly after Murphy announced his commitment on April 15, the Auburn X account posted a screenshot of a Mississippi State post that said "wde." Auburn also wrote "#NoContextAuburnMensBasketball." The post was deleted about an hour later.
"WDE" means "war damn eagle," a phrase used by Auburn fans.
The Mississippi State X account posted "wde" during the Jan. 14 game at Auburn, but it wasn't intentional. An athletics department spokesperson told the Clarion Ledger than an Auburn fan had opened an MSU staffer's laptop while away from the desk and posted the message. It was quickly deleted by Mississippi State, but screenshots were already taken.
Auburn torched Mississippi State 88-66 in that game at Neville Arena despite star Johni Broome being unavailable with an injury. The game was so lopsided that Broome was caught on TV looking at his cell phone while sitting on the Auburn bench.
