Agent explains how Roque’s transfer to Palmeiras was pulled off despite Barcelona’s resistance
Vitor Roque’s transfer to Palmeiras has been a topic of discussion, and his agent, Andre Cury, has now shed light on how the move came about.
According to him, Barcelona were initially unwilling to let the deal go through, as they did not consider it a viable option.
However, through strategic negotiations and legal manoeuvres, Cury and his team managed to push the transfer forward.
Barcelona had their doubts
Barcelona were not keen on allowing Roque to leave, but Cury took matters into his own hands. He coordinated with Palmeiras’ sporting director, Anderson Barros, and the club’s legal representative, Leo Holanda.
With additional legal support from a lawyer based in Madrid, they put pressure on the situation and secured a favourable ruling from FIFA.
“If it depended on Barcelona, the answer would be ‘no’.So I met with Anderson and Leo Holanda, and together with a lawyer in Madrid, we pressed the matter and managed to get a favourable opinion from FIFA.
“It was an incredible job and very well done,” he said.
Roque will return to Europe
As Roque begins his journey at Palmeiras, his agent has outlined what should be the forward’s main focus during his time in Brazil.
The young striker has committed to a five-year contract with the club, but Cury believes he does not necessarily need to see out the entire duration.
“Vitor can play two, three or four seasons at Palmeiras and then return to Europe and also to the Brazilian national team.”
Roque needed convincing
Initially, Roque was hesitant about returning to Brazil. He had already made the jump to European football and was uncertain about taking a step back.
“At first he didn’t want to because he was already in Europe, but I told him what happened with Henrique and Keirrison; A huge club in Europe buys the player and then has no room for him and starts to loan him out by clubs.”
Palmeiras, on the other hand, have shown great faith in Roque. They were willing to invest in him and offer him a stable environment to continue his development.
Despite Barcelona’s reluctance, discussions took place with La Liga and the Spanish Federation to explore the possibility of keeping him.
“Palmeiras decided to bet on Vitor Roque and Barcelona spoke with La Liga and the Federation and they wouldn’t let them.
“We did some parallel work, together with Barcelona and with the help of FIFA and we managed to make the deal,” he revealed.
