Barcelona pushing for €85m-rated forward’s transfer as Deco lays the groundwork
According to an update provided by SPORT, it has come to light that Barcelona sporting director Deco already laying the groundwork for a possible transfer of Luis Diaz.
Plans are being drawn up, and financial calculations are being made to determine how the club could afford the move.
However, securing Diaz will not be straightforward, as Barcelona must generate a significant amount of funds before they can make an official approach.
There are problems to overcome
The estimated cost of signing the Colombian winger is no less than €70-75 million, which means Barcelona need to free up at least €30 million in their wage structure to make the deal feasible.
The club is exploring different ways to raise funds, including player sales and percentage deals involving those not currently part of the first-team setup.
Barcelona also see their midfield as an area where they could consider a major sale if the right offer arrives. While the squad has an abundance of midfield options, only Pedri is regarded as untouchable.
In defence, the club is cautious about making any changes, but the futures of Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, and Ronald Araujo remain uncertain. Araujo, in particular, would only be allowed to leave if he requested a move.
What is Barcelona’s plan with Diaz?
On Diaz’s side, the player is reportedly eager to join Barcelona. Having spent four seasons in England, he is excited about the prospect of wearing the Blaugrana colours.
Deco has already held informal discussions with his representatives, making them aware of Barcelona’s interest. However, financial restrictions under La Liga’s fair play regulations prevent the club from making any formal moves at this stage.
One factor that could work in Barcelona’s favour is Diaz’s contract situation. His current deal runs until 2027, meaning that by 2026, Liverpool would have less leverage in negotiations.
If the club does not sell him next summer, they risk losing out on a significant transfer fee the following year. That said, if Barcelona fail to show concrete interest, Diaz may also consider extending his stay at Anfield.
