‘To be honest…’ – Barcelona attacking target breaks silence on his future
Alexander Isak is enjoying a brilliant season at Newcastle United which has made him one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe heading into the summer transfer window.
FC Barcelona, for their part, are one of the Swedish international’s biggest admirers and have him on their wishlist for attacking reinforcements for the upcoming season.
Isak opens up on his future
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Isak opened up on his situation at Newcastle United and the speculations surrounding his future beyond this season.
With the campaign set to enter its final phase, the former Real Sociedad striker insisted that his only focus is on Newcastle and finishing the season strongly after having led them to the Carabao Cup triumph.
“There is not much to say, I have spoken several times about my situation and my confidence at Newcastle. A lot has been written about my love for the city and the club, how much I enjoy it there,” said Isak.
“We won the cup now, but we want to finish strong and make it to the Champions League games. That’s where my focus is,” he added.
Further emphasising his commitment to Newcastle’s objectives, Isak stated: “I want to finish strong and reach the Champions League. That is my focus. There is no reason to think about anything else.”
When asked about interest from other clubs, Isak admitted he was unaware of any developments, saying:
“To be honest, I don’t know much. From inside the club and from our side there is absolutely no discussion.
“For me, it’s just concentrating completely on playing. There is no reason for me to think about anything else. I’m really enjoying Newcastle. The only thing for me is to play.”
Regarding reports that Newcastle are preparing a lucrative contract extension, Isak downplayed the speculation.
“Actually, it’s the same thing there. A lot is written on the outside, but inside the club nobody talks about it,” he concluded.
