Ada girls finish fourth at Dickson Tournament

ARDMORE — The Ada High School girls golf team placed fourth at the Dickson Tournament last week at the Lake Murray Resort Golf Course.

Sulphur won the event with a team score of 352. Lone Grove was runner-up at 365, followed by Plainview at 368 and Ada at 378.

The Lady Cougars have a pair of tournaments this week. They are at the Southern Oklahoma Girls Invitational today at the Duncan Elks Golf & Country Club and will compete in the rugged Class 6A Regional Preview Thursday at the Winter Creek Golf Course in Blanchard.

Ada girls golf coach Ron Anderson said his team’s decision-making is getting better.

“I’m proud of all the girls with their decisions on the course,” he said. “Many years ago, I was coaching bad shots, but the way this program is now, I coach good shots.”

Anderson said there is plenty of room for improvement between now and the postseason.

“With a month to go (before regionals), we must improve on our weaknesses. Better putting and chipping will lower our scores,” he said. “It takes a lot of discipline to do that every day because it’s boring. We have little time to waste with Regionals fast approaching.”

Ada freshman standout Liberty Bridgeman nearly captured her first individual championship of the spring season after firing a score of 80. Her round included a pair of birdies.

Sulphur senior Paisley Eason won the medalist crown, edging Bridgeman by one stroke with a score of 79.

“Liberty is a barracuda at tournament time. I think she plays better in tournaments than she does in practices,” Anderson said. “She’s very focused for someone her age and she makes great decisions on the course. I enjoy staying back and watching her play.”

Gabriella Gross of Heritage Hall was third with an 82 and Sophie Groves of Plainview finished fourth at 83.

Ada’s Brooklyn Black recorded a Top 15 finished by shooting a 93 and landing in the 14th spot. Bella Stowers was next for the Lady Cougars with a 102 followed by Kenzie Qualls at 103 and Natalie Jussely at 115. Lila Willis and Paisley Poe played as individuals and shot 103 and 110, respectively.
