The defensive line is an area of positivity for the Los Angeles Rams heading into 2025.
Poona Ford shored up the biggest issue — run defense — while the rest of the unit is sound between Kobe Turner, Braden Fiske. However, depth could become an issue if injuries pop up, meaning the Rams should look at some defensive linemen in the draft.
The key to a good defensive linemen is twofold: Either a player who is insanely good at the interior or off tackle, or someone who can move throughout the offensive line. Ideally, they can do both. But in a competitive NFC, the Rams need pass rush as well as run-stuffing help.
Here are three defensive linemen the Rams could target for each day of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Day 1: DT Derrick Harmon, Oregon
Harmon is a solid interior defensive lineman who can also impact the pass rush. He finished the 2024 season with five sacks, 11 tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles. The Rams don’t need much interior help with Turner and Ford, but Harmon would give them more depth, size and attacking prowess from the defensive line.
Day 2: DL Jordan Phillips, Maryland
Phillips is another strong interior defender who could penetrate the line of scrimmage when called upon. Pro Football Focus wrote that he had the best bull rush of all the defensive line prospects and would be another solid addition to the line.
Day 3: DL Rylie Mills, Notre Dame
Mills would be a defensive end in the Rams’ scheme and proved to be a great pass rusher in 2024. He finished with 7.5 sacks this past season with nine tackles for a loss. Mills isn’t a great run defender, but could add depth in passing situations.
