Tacos. Pizza. Dumplings.
They're new foods for a new season for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, and as always, the action on the field isn't the only reason that fans flock to the ballpark.
A new round of renovations to VyStar Ballpark also includes the shakeup for the concessions menu of the Triple-A baseball team, which has revamped its food offerings ahead of Tuesday's Opening Day against the Nashville Sounds.
Gillian Bay, the Jumbo Shrimp's premium experiences manager, said some things aren't changing in the least. The club's $2 hot dogs are sticking around as before, along with the Duval Heavy Hitter and the massive Slugger dogs.
But there's a whole set of new additions, and new concepts, for fans to take in.
Follow the Food Map
In baseball, the saying used to go, you can't tell the players without a scorecard.
At the Jumbo Shrimp games, for fans to find their way around the concessions, it helps to have an eye on the Food Map.
The map displays 10 major concession stops scattered around the ballpark, each with their own distinct flavors, including the new Right Field Hall — due for completion just in time for Tuesday's home opener — with shareable plates, ballpark tapas and a full bar.
Continuing around the ballpark from the right field foul pole, these destinations are as follows:
- The Pit Smoke House, far right field, with traditional barbecue plates smoked at the park
- The Oasis, first-base line, with Latin "Jax-Mex" flavors including tacos and quesadillas
- All-American Jax, behind first-base dugout, with classic ballpark food
- Wheelhouse, third level behind the plate, with made-to-order sandwiches, wraps, cheesesteaks and salads
- Southern Fried Freebird, behind third-base dugout, with fried food and seafood baskets
- Pinstripe Parlor, down third-base line, with pizza and ice cream
- Craft Cave, left field, with craft beer, snacks and hot dogs
- Tiki Terrace, deep left field, an outdoor bar with beer and cocktails
- Scampi's Cove, deep left field, with ballpark snacks and sweets
"Now, there's true destination points," Bay said. "We want to encourage our fans to go on a food journey, and that's what the food map is for. It's almost like a treasure map."
