Who should be the Lubbock A-J high school athlete of the week?

Athletes from softball and track are among the finalists for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal's Athlete of the Week.

The A-J accepts nominations each week until noon Sunday. Online voting begins at 4 a.m. Monday at lubbockonline.com. The poll runs through 5 p.m. Thursday, with the winner announced the first Friday of the following month.

HOW TO NOMINATE

► Coaching staffs can nominate a player for next week's award by emailing sports@lubbockonline.com by Sunday morning.

► Include nomination with grade level and pertinent stats/info from this week's games/results.

Here are this week's nominees.

Female nominees

Macie Burkhead, Jr., New Deal — Won the discus (123-0) and shot put (41-4) at the Districts 3/4-2A area meet.

Cambree Crow, Fr., Seminole — Won the 400 meters (58.45) and qualified for regionals with a third-place finish in the triple jump (36-0½) at the Districts 3/4-4A area meet.

Alexis Wade, So., Farwell — Won the 3,200 meters (12:02.85) and 1,600 meters (5:29.79) at the Districts 3/4-2A area meet.

Male nominees

Maddox Archibald, So., Frenship — Won the high jump (6-6) at the Districts 1/2-6A area meet.

Colton Hurst, Sr., Idalou — Won the shot put at the Districts 1/2-3A area meet with a throw of 57-2¾.

Zach Salazar, Jr., Estacado — Threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in a win over Big Spring.
