Warriors move to No. 5 seed in West with win over Grizzlies on Tuesday

In a highly anticipated contest between the Western Conference's No. 5 and No. 6 seeds, Tuesday's game between the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies delivered playoff vibes. In a back-and-forth battle that saw Steph Curry score a game-high 52 points in a near triple-double performance, the Warriors landed the final knockout punch to secure a pivotal 134-125 win in Memphis.

With their win, the Warriors made a significant jump in the Western Conference playoff race, moving up from the No. 6 seed to the No. 5 in the standings with seven games left in the regular season. Along with sliding up the standings, the Warriors now own the tiebreaker over the Grizzlies. Although the Warriors, Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves all have 44 wins, Golden State owns the tiebreaker over both Memphis and Minnesota. The No. 8 seed Los Angeles Clippers also closely trail the Warriors, Grizzlies and Timberwolves with a 43-32 record.

When the Golden State traded for Jimmy Butler on Feb. 5, the Warriors had a 25-25 record and sat tied for the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference. Since acquiring Butler, the Warriors have posted a 19-6 overall record, climbing all the way up to the No. 5 seed.

Despite securing the No. 5 seed, the Warriors' final stretch of the regular season doesn't get any easier. Golden State will close out their six-game road swing with a stop in Hollywood for a contest against the No. 4 seed Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. The next day, the Warriors will host the No. 3 seed Denver Nuggets for the second leg of a back-to-back. The Warriors will then play the Western Conference No. 2 seed, the Houston Rockets, at home on Sunday to end the week.

Each of Golden State's final seven games could have postseason seeding implications.
