As a team with a returning head coach, the Denver Broncos can begin their (voluntary) offseason workout program on Monday, April 21.
Because the sessions are voluntary, coach Sean Payton can't force the players to report for this portion of the offseason program. Fortunately, most players want to be there -- and many are already in the building.
“I think No. 1, we have a lot of players who are already back lifting and working out which is great, especially this time of the year," Payton said at the NFL's Annual League Meeting in Florida earlier this week. "There are some cities that the offseason is more challenging relative to attendance. Fortunately for us, that’s not a big challenge for us. I think players generally want to train in altitude and at our facilities.
"Once they’ve had two years of it now and to see where we’re at relative to health and safety, injury data, we were first in the league again. It’s easy to sell. It’s easy to say, ‘We’re on the right path.’ I think there’s that confidence level that you have to have with your team.”
Denver has not yet announced its offseason schedule, but the team held organized team activities in late May and early June last year, followed by mandatory minicamp in mid-June. The Broncos will likely have a similar schedule this offseason.
After minicamp, players will get a summer break before reporting back to Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit for the start of training camp in late July.
