The polls are open! Vote for the Tulare County high school athlete of the week, March 24-28
Visalia Times-Delta/Tulare Advance-Register readers can now vote for their favorite high school athletes.
The poll closes on Friday at 10 a.m. There are no restrictions so vote now and vote often. Please do not email your votes.
Here are the choices for the week of March 24-28:
- Trinity Bailey, track and field, Tulare Western: Bailey, a senior, won the 200- and 400-meter races at the Larry Lung Invitational, placing first in each event.
- Matthew Corral, baseball, Tulare Western: Corral got the win on the mound, throwing six strikeouts in five innings to help the Mustangs defeat Mission Oak 10-3.
- Malakai DeRose, track and field, Redwood: DeRose cleared 6 feet in the high jump to come in first at the Larry Lung Invitational.
- Isaac Esquivel, baseball, Redwood: Esquivel went 2-for-4 hitting with a home run, five RBIs and two runs scored in a 13-8 win over Porterville.
- Jiannah Freitas, softball, Tulare Union: Freitas hit .571 with four home runs, two triples and 10 RBIs at the Caruthers Tournament. She also had two wins in the circle, combining for nine strikeouts in those victories.
- Jared Griffith, baseball, Central Valley Christian: Griffith tossed seven strikeouts in a complete-game outing as the Cavaliers downed Hanford West 10-1.
- Cade McElmoyl, baseball, Exeter: McElmoyl hurled 13 strikeouts to lead the Monarchs to a 4-3 victory against Tulare Union in the Caruthers Classic Championship Game. He was named the tournament's most valuable player.
- Hayden Oliveira, softball, Golden West: Oliveira launched a home run and drove in two runs in a 5-4 win over Hanford.
- Jordan Powell, track and field, Redwood: Powell fired a throw of 100 feet and 2 inches to win the discus throw at the Larry Lung Invitational. She also tied for first in the shot put.
- Jackie Ramirez, softball, Redwood: Ramirez led the way in a 6-0 win over Clovis North, tossing seven strikeouts in a complete-game shutout performance.
- Heriberto Kian Rangel, track and field, Porterville: Rangel placed first in the shot put with a toss of 50-feet-and-a-half inches at the Larry Lung Invitational.
- Jordan Rhyner, baseball, El Diamante: Rhyner threw 11 strikeouts while going to distance to anchor the Miners to a 6-0 shutout victory against Monache.

How to nominate an athlete of the week
Nominations are based on information available to the Times-Delta.
All high school varsity players from Tulare County can be on the ballot. Nominations must be received by Monday morning following that week's games for consideration.
Anyone can nominate an athlete of the week for every sport. Nominate next week’s ballot through email. Readers can email nominations to sports reporter Vongni Yang at vyang2@visaliatimesdelta.com. Please include a player’s statistics and a photo if possible.
