Vote now for the Daily Advertiser Athlete of the Week (March 10-16)
As winter sports wrap up their postseason and spring sports kick-off, the Daily Advertiser is back on the search for the next Athlete of the Week.
With the LHSAA Boys Marsh Madness wrapping up this past weekend, winter sports have come and gone. St. Thomas More boys basketball was the only team hailing from Lafayette Parish and its surrounding area to make a trip to Lake Charles for the semifinals and finals matchups.
Spring sports are in full swing with softball and baseball entering district play while track and field meets are up and running as well.
This week's poll includes athletes from the following winter and spring sports: girls basketball, boys basketball, softball, baseball and track and field. The poll can be found at the bottom of the story and closes on Friday.
Here are the candidates for Athlete of the Week for March 10-16 (athletes listed in alphabetical order):
Candidates
John Luke Bourque, boys basketball, St. Thomas More
Buzzer-beaters have become a theme for the Cougars this postseason and the latest one came from Bourque in the LHSAA Select Division I semifinals. The senior point guard only had 2.9 seconds to work with, off an inbound and he drilled the floater to secure STM a spot in the finals. The Cougars beat John Curtis 46-44.
Malayna Daigle, softball, Notre Dame
The Pios have yet to lose a game this season, and Daigle is one of the reasons for this. The senior outfielder hit her sixth, seventh, and eighth home runs of the season, having her team’s hottest bat this season. Notre Dame went on to beat Lafayette Christian Academy and Eunice.
Blaze Duhon, baseball, North Vermilion
In the Patriots district game versus Westgate on March 13, Duhon was locked in on the mound. He kept the Tigers lineup off-balance all game long, not giving them anything they could keep up with. He went on to shut out Westgate for a dominating 15-0 win over Westgate.

AnnaLeigh Horton, track and field, Southside
At the Ram Relay track meet on March 14, Horton was a top runner for the Sharks. In the girls 300-meter hurdles race, the junior sprinter battled the windy weather but still came out on top. She took home first place running the race in 51.20 seconds.
Ty Thomas, track and field, Acadiana
In his team’s home meet on March 14, Thomas was one of the fastest sprinters for his team. In the boys 200-meter race, Thomas took home gold running the race in 22.90 seconds. He didn’t stop there, though, and also claimed bronze in the boys' 100-meter race.
Khia Williams, track and field, Lafayette
There was no stopping Williams in the Ram Relay track meet this Friday. She was dusting her competition in the girls 100-meter and 200-meter races where she took home first place in both races. She ran the 100-meter race in an impressive time of just 12.40 seconds.
