Texans restructure WR Christian Kirk’s contract ahead of 2025 season
The Houston Texans are adding more money back into the account.
According to KRPC2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, the Texans and wide receiver Christian Kirk have agreed on a new restructured contract for the 2025 season, thus freeing up over $12 million in cap space.
After being acquired from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick, Kirk was originally due a $15.5 million base salary. According to Wilson, that's been converted into a $14 million signing bonus for accounting purposes while lowering his base salary to the league minimum of $1.17 million.
Kirk is now the third player who has restructured his contract in Houston this offseason to help his team add more money into the account with hopes of bettering the roster. The Texans previously restructured contracts for linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair and wide receiver Nico Collins, creating $6.26 million and $9.8 million in salary cap space, respectively.

General manager Nick Caserio is trying to ensure that Houston remains a competitive team after securing back-to-back division titles behind Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud. While the offensive line will be revamped after Laremy Tunsil's trade to Washington, perhaps it's necessary after the league's most expensive line gave the third-most sacks.
But while the offense needs help in its trenches, it also needed a No. 2 weapon to pair with Nico Collins after Stefon Diggs and Robert Woods hit free agency. When healthy, Kirk has a stable secondary force both Ariziona and Jacksonville, helping each team make the postseason.
The Texans still need a No. 3 option behind Kirk and Collins. Expect Houston to target a name in next month's draft, potentially as early as pick No. 25.
