Instant analysis: Ed Ingram becoms the new Kendrick Green for the Texans in 2025
Ed Ingram might be coming to Houston, but don't expect him to be the next Shaq Mason or Kenyon Green.
The Texans are trading a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for the 2022 second-round pick out of LSU. With Houston completely revamping its offensive line under new coach Cole Popovich, Ingram will have a chance to restart his career on a high note at NRG Stadium.
Spoiler alert; he's coming in as Kendrick Green's replacement, not Kenyon Green's.
The Texans are shoring up depth on their offensive line at this point following the release of Mason and departure of the Green duo. Ingram, who's started 41 games, should serve as an experienced name who could start in a bind should injuries stockpile.
For now, that's it. Even with a familiarity in Nick Caley's offense because of the connection of the Sean McVay coaching clinic that's occurring in Minneapolis under Kevin O'Connell, Ingram will have to prove his inconsistencies were left in Minneapolis during the early stages of training camp.

Two years ago, general manager Nick Caserio made a similar trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers to land Green; a part-time starter with experience who regressed after showing flashes. In Houston, he was offered a chance to prove his potential, but suffered multiple injuries and never could regain that 2021 spark.
Enter Ingram, who started nine games last season before being benched at the midseason mark for Dalton Risner. The benching was warranted, too. In just 580 snaps in 2024 in nine starts, surrendered five sacks, and earned an overall PFF grade of 54.
That's a player who fits under the "let's wait and see" category more so than the Day 1 starter conversation. If anything, newcomer Laken Tomlinson and Ingram could battle it out for reps at guard while Houston targets a rookie with its first pick to shore up the either side of trenches.
Caserio is taking a flyer on another player with upside who fits a need for a team looking to rebuild its identity on the offensive line. If he ends up succeeding, that's a win for Houston as it looks for a long-term answer at guard. If not, well Ingram probably wasn't viewed as a starter to begin with.
Giving up draft capital for a player who allowed the highest one-on-one pressure rate in the league isn't something Texans fans probably like, but Caserio was going to give up a late-round pick to land someone who was going to get cut.

Christian Kirk or Joe Mixon ring a bell?
Ingram provides depth to a depleted offensive line, but for those thinking he's a Day 1 starter, let's cool it with those talks. The same goes for the fans looking into the reps where Ingram looked promising and are talking themselves into thinking a change of scenery will bring out the best in a former All-SEC lineman.
It's a move to replace Kendrick Green as a depth piece. Nothing more. Nothing less.
