Steelers QB situation takes a turn with money being equal
At this point, it feels about 50/50 whether or not quarterback Aaron Rodgers actually signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, despite the lack of rumors or speculation, we are starting to wonder if there's just as good a chance that Russell Wilson ends up coming back to the Steelers instead.
But what about money? We obviously don't have any specific numbers as far as the Steelers' offer to Rodgers or what kind of money Wilson could demand, but we do have an idea. Based on reports, Rogers' offer and Wilson's price are somewhere in the range of $25-$30 million per year. Given that Justin Fields got $30 million per year and Sam Darnold got $37.5 million per year, it makes sense this is where these two aging vets would be sitting.
So if money is no issue because it doesn't seem like it is, which quarterback do you want on the Steelers?
Rodgers and Wilson are both future HOF quarterbacks and have seen tremendous success in the NFL. Rodgers is four years older and has played in 52 more NFL games. Both guys have one Super Bowl but Rodgers has been better in terms of individual honors including four MVP awards.
Neither guy is playing as well as they did in their prime but which guy makes the Steelers a better team in 2025? We've made it clear that Wilson is the easiest choice here but this was before it came out that Wilson was going to demand very similar money. With money being equal, we aren't sure Wilson being the safer choice is the best choice anymore.
One of the things that really hurt the Steelers offense last season was Wilson's unwillingness to let it fly and took way too many hits. Rodgers is going to do what he does no matter what team he is on and is going to spread the football around the field as he sees fit and won't let any offense limit him. This might be exactly what Pittsburgh needs.
