Russell Wilson ‘ready to sign’ but Giants, Steelers waiting on Aaron Rodgers’ decision: report
The Giants’ meeting with QB Russell Wilson went “very well,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on Sportscenter.
Wilson was with the team late Thursday and most of the day Friday -- before leaving the facility without a deal in place.
Fowler mentioned that the veterans meeting with the Cleveland Browns earlier this week also went well and he is “ready to sign” somewhere -- but will likely have to wait for Aaron Rodgers to decide on his future. “[Wilson is] in a position where he can and is ready to sign somewhere, but he appears to be the backup No. 2 option in both Pittsburgh and New York -- so he’s gotta wait on the Rodgers domino to fall most likely, and Cleveland is a wild card.”
Rodgers is arguably the most coveted quarterback on the market right now.
The delay in his decision, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, is that there is mutual interest between him and the Vikings -- and the 41-year-old has given the team time to decide what they’d like to do.
Rodgers is "hoping" to ultimately land in Minnesota and the team is strongly weighing that possibility -- but it is still unknown how head coach Kevin O’Connell feels about that, according to The Athletic.
Which means, we all continue to wait.
Meanwhile, the Giants also hosted New Jersey native Joe Flacco for a visit on Thursday as a potential fallback option in case they were to miss out on both Rodgers and Wilson.
For now, Tommy DeVito remains the only option on their roster.
