Russell Wilson 'ready to sign' if New York Giants come calling
Like the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers, veteran quarterback Russell Wilson finds himself at the mercy of three-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.
Both the Giants and Steelers remain in a holding position as Rodgers determines his next course of action, leaving Wilson to feel like the forgotten bridesmaid. He can do little other than sit on his hands following visits with the Giants and Cleveland Browns last week.
However, unlike Rodgers, Wilson is ready to sign should the Giants (or Steelers) come calling, reports ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
"He's in a position where can and is ready to sign somewhere," Fowler said of Wilson. "But he appears to be the backup No. 2 option in both Pittsburgh and New York, so he’s gotta wait on the Rodgers domino to fall most likely. Cleveland is a wild card."
The Giants reportedly have a "standing offer" for Rodgers, who may opt to retire before signing with either New York or Pittsburgh. That would leave the two teams to battle it out with Wilson, who has visited the Giants in each of the past two free agency cycles but spent last season with the Steelers.
In addition to Wilson, the Giants also met with New Jersey native Joe Flacco last week. He would represent Option D in their hunt for a bridge quarterback.
The Giants also hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft but appear unlikely to land their primary target, Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who is expected to go first overall to the Tennessee Titans.
