The Astros brought Cam Smith’s family into the clubhouse to surprise him about making the big-league roster
Every player in the big leagues has gotten the opportunity to break that call-up news to a family member or loved one. It's undeniably a moment those players will never forget.
And on Tuesday, the Astros were determined to make that memory extra special for Cam Smith who will improbably find himself on the Opening Day roster for Houston.
Smith was the centerpiece of the trade that sent Kyle Tucker to the Cubs, but with just 32 games of minor-league experience, the Astros probably didn't expect Smith to make the big-league squad. But the 22-year-old's dominant spring training (hitting .342 with four home runs and a 1.129 OPS) had the Astros convinced he was ready.
That all led to this moment in the Astros' clubhouse.

Astros manager Joe Espada addressed the team about his big-league moment, and once he brought Smith's family into the clubhouse, the rookie couldn't hold back tears. He knew exactly what the surprise meant.
He'll be in Houston on Thursday.
