Report: Russell Wilson sees New York Giants as 'more viable option' than Steelers
The New York Giants reportedly have a "standing offer" for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but he's in no rush to decide on his future and the Giants appear to have no interest in pressuring him.
As they continue to give Rodgers his space, the Giants have met with fellow veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Jameis Winston. For Wilson, it's the second consecutive year in which he's held a free agent visit with the Giants.
Although he is widely viewed as Option B behind Rodgers (Option C if you include Matthew Stafford), Wilson is ready to sign if the Giants come calling.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the 10-time Pro Bowler views the Giants as a "more viable option" than returning to the Steelers, whom he spent the 2024 season with.
"They got Russell Wilson still as sort of a contingency, but he's sort of been number two, number three on their list all along, and so I'm told that Russell Wilson sees the Giants as more of a viable option for him throughout this process," Fowler said on Wednesday's SportsCenter, via Bleacher Report.
There are also rumors floating around that Wilson would be willing to sign a team-friendly deal which is unlikely the case with Rodgers. However, if true, that does not appear to me moving the needle for general manager Joe Schoen & Co.
Ultimately, none of it may matter. The veteran quarterback market appears to be on hold until Rodgers makes his decision, and that may not come for several weeks.
