Standout MAC tight end Christion Carter to participate in Lions' local pro day

Former Northern Illinois tight end Christion Carter has accepted an invitation to the Detroit Lions' local pro day, per a report Friday.

The Draft Network's Justin Melo reported Carter's expected attendance following his standout performance last month at NIU's pro day. Carter posted a 35-inch vertical and 10-foot-4-inch broad jump to go along with a 4.62 40-yard dash time.

The fastest tight end at this year's combine was Oregon's Terrance Ferguson with a 4.63.

Carter is the latest name reported to be attending the local pro day at the team's practice facility in Allen Park. Michigan State offensive lineman Luke Newman, Michigan offensive lineman Josh Priebe, and Auburn linebacker Dorian Mausi are also among several names expected to participate.

Carter played three seasons at Howard before transferring to NIU in 2023. He totaled 12 catches for 178 yards and two touchdowns that season, but saw a diminished role in 2024, primarily seeing the field on special teams.

He attended Howard's pro day on March 27 and improved some measurables compared to his NIU pro day performance.

The Lions are obviously happy with their starting tight end, Sam LaPorta, but a clear-cut athlete like Carter is an option should he not get drafted and become available for training camp.
