Sheridan outlasts Morgan softball in MVL clash

THORNVILLE — Cora Hall knocked in three runs with a home run and two doubles and scored three times, as Sheridan held off Morgan 11-10 in a Muskingum Valley League Big School Division showdown on Monday.

Hall earned the win with 16 strikeouts, but allowed nine hits and walked five. Hailey Mueller added two hits and three RBIs, Brooke Cadigan had two hits and scored three runs, Payton Powell doubled and scored twice, and Hayley Clifton added two hits for the Generals (2-1, 2-0 MVL). Kennedy Grosse and Avery Hall also had their first varsity hits.

Chloe Baker hit a triple, a double and a single and scored four runs, Myka Augenstein tripled, doubled and singled with three RBIs and Ellie Parsons doubled for the Raiders (4-1, 1-1). Laney Kangas suffered the loss, allowing five runs in 1 1/3 innings and Allia Rush struck out five in 5 2/3 innings.

Philo 6, River View 1: Lexie Charles fanned 11 and walked three in tossing a two-hitter for the Electrics (3-2, 1-1) in a MVL Big School win.

Karlee Southall doubled, singled and knocked in two runs and Lia Unger and Gracie Ferrell also had two hits for Philo, which had 10 hits.

Regan Foster had nine strikeouts and four walks in a complete game loss. She also doubled and Hallie Wallace singled for the Lady Bears (2-4, 0-2).

Indian Valley 10, Ridgewood 3: Ava Kulbacki doubled and singled and Kaydence Lahna and Keira Schrock added a hit and a RBI as the Generals (4-1) fell in Inter-Valley Conference South Division play.

Kulbacki had two strikeouts and gave up four hits in 2 2/3 innings in taking the loss.

Baseball

Marietta 5, Morgan 4: The Tigers scored twice in the top of the seventh to rally past the Raiders (1-2).

Brian Sweet had a single and three RBIs, Witten Schaad chipped in two hits with a RBI, and Brylee Shannon, McGwire Winner and Jude Garber also had hits for Morgan. Schaad also had eight strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings, as Colt Brown took the loss in relief.

Indian Valley 3, Ridgewood 1: The Braves scored twice in the sixth to get past the Generals in IVC play.
