Shane Beamer talks South Carolina's backup QB options for LaNorris Sellers ahead of spring game

COLUMBIA — This spring football season for South Carolina and coach Shane Beamer is different than last year.

In April 2024, Beamer didn't know who his next quarterback was, and it was a battle between redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers and veteran transfer Robby Ashford.

Sellers won the job and had a triumphant year as Beamer's leader, throwing for 2,534 yards to carry South Carolina to a 9-4 season. Ashford slid into the backup position.

In the offseason, Ashford transferred to Wake Forest and third-string quarterback Davis Beville ran out of eligibility, which has Beamer searching for Sellers' backup for the 2025 season.

It was a natural battle in last year's spring game, with Sellers leading one team and Ashford leading the other. Now, it's a matter of looking at who might be that main backup option.

Ahead of the 2025 spring game on April 18 (7:30 p.m.), Beamer addressed his expectations.

"See who can of operate the offense and and operate it efficiently," Beamer said April 15. "There's a really good battle going on right now behind (Sellers)."

He said the battle is primarily between Air Noland (6-foot-3, 225 pounds), a transfer from Ohio State; redshirt freshman Dante Reno (6-2, 214) and freshman Cutter Woods (6-3, 204). Beamer said ...
