While Sean Miller has been busy filling out his roster the last few weeks, he focused on his coaching staff on Friday. The Longhorns' new head coach hired Indiana assistant coach Kenya Hunter. He worked with Miller from 2004 through 2007 during his first stint at Xavier. After leaving Xavier, Hunter spent six years at Georgetown and five at Nebraska.
In Hunter, Texas is adding a coach with plenty of experience who knows how to win. His coaching career also includes a stop at UConn, where he had the opportunity to learn from Dan Hurley. He will join a coaching staff that has many new faces and ties to Miller. That includes assistant coaches David Miller, Adam Cohen, Ryan Anderson, and Ulric Maligi.
During his career, Hunter has worked with various players that went on to play in the NBA. He coached former first-round picks Roy Hibbert, Greg Monroe, and Otto Porter Jr. At Indiana, he coached Trayce Jackson-Davis, Kel'el Ware, Malik Reneau, and Oumar Ballo. That is welcome news for Longhorns players hoping to reach the next level.

After the disappointing 2024-2025 campaign, more eyes will be on Texas than ever before. That is partly why they have been busy in the transfer portal, landing Xavier wing Dailyn Swain, Purdue forward Camden Heide, and Florida Atlantic center Matas Vokietaitis. Having a coach with Howard's experience should help this team rebound in a tough SEC conference.
Howard's next step is to get to know his players and help Miller get the most out of this roster.
