Fort Defiance has a new head football coach.
Mike Yew was named the school's coach, replacing Dan Rolfe, who stepped down from the position in February after 16 years on the job.
Yew was head football coach at Central Woodstock for 17 years before taking over as the school's athletic director in the spring of 2024. He didn't last in that position long, being reassigned to Stonewall Jackson this past November, per a story in the Northern Virginia Daily. The Strasburg-based paper reached out to Yew at the time but he didn't give them a comment on the move.
Yew is the all-time winningest coach at Central. The Falcons played for a state championship in 2022.
"Coach Yew has experience with a wide range of athletes through his ventures coaching track and basketball," Fort Defiance athletic director Richard Miller wrote in a message to staff Friday. "Coach Yew’s physical style of football fits our athletes well. We are fortunate to have Coach Yew join our staff to develop our students as well as mentor our coaching staff."
