Saints add former Tennessee Titans draft pick to compete at left guard
The New Orleans Saints have made a few moves in recent days, such as the signing of wide receiver Brandin Cooks to a two-year deal, and the re-signing of defensive back Ugo Amadi to a one-year contract. This comes after the team has had a relatively quiet offseason so far, but has managed to fill a few needs via re-signings and external signings.
They will continue to do more of the latter by bringing in offensive lineman Dillon Radunz on a one-year deal, as was announced by the team. The deal has been agreed to but not yet signed.
Radunz has played both guard and tackle at the NFL level, accruing his most snaps at right guard with 1,080, and the second-most at right tackle with 504. However, the Saints do have a large need at left guard, where he has played 322 career snaps, and his success has predominantly been when at guard and not tackle. In 2024 he played in 15 games at right guard, allowing 6 sacks, 23 pressures, and accruing 5 penalties in 903 snaps.
He was heavily successful as a run blocker in his first few seasons but struggled mightily with pass protection. 2024 was somewhat the opposite, as he did truly improve on his pass protection in many cases despite the relatively high sacks allowed number, but his run blocking was not exceptional. Finding the happy median between the two and being able to produce will be what the Saints have to try and get out of him, and given the opening at left guard, he could end up being the full-time starter entering the 2025 season.
