LSU basketball added a key piece to its front office on Monday, hiring former Tiger basketball star Ronald Dupree to serve as general manager. In the modern era of college athletics, the general manager position has become critical to the success of any program. NIL, the transfer portal, and the pending implementation of revenue sharing have added complexity to the sport.
It's too much for the head coach to navigate. A general manager can make or break a program. LSU is hoping Dupree does the former for the Tigers.
Dupree spent the last six years in front-office roles with the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks. Most recently, he served as the Bucks' Director of Global Scouting.
Dupree played at LSU from 1999-2003, helping the Tigers win a SEC championship and reach a Sweet 16. Dupree ranks top-10 in program history in points and rebounds.

Dupree's NBA scouting experience, paired with his LSU familiarity, make him an intriguing hire. He played for LSU at a time when the Tigers were contenders in the SEC. The Tigers haven't had that level of success in recent years, but LSU head coach Matt McMahon is hoping the addition of an impact transfer class, along with the expertise of Dupree, can get LSU back in the NCAA Tournament conversation.
