New Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan is beginning to fill out his 2025 coaching staff after being officially hired on Saturday afternoon after five seasons at Samford. After the news was revealed on Friday night, one name that Aggie fans are highly familiar with is accomplished assistant and head coach Kyle Keller, who will join Mitch Cole on the staff.
Kyle Keller boasts a remarkable coaching career in college basketball, demonstrating expertise in stifling defensive strategies and exceptional recruiting abilities. Starting in 1990, Keller spent seven years as an assistant coach across three teams before accepting the head coach position at Tyler Junior College. He later joined Hall of Fame coach Eddie Sutton at Oklahoma State (1999–2008), where he played a pivotal role in shaping the team. Keller then enhanced his coaching profile by serving under Bill Self at Kansas (2008–2011), known for its powerhouse basketball program.
At Texas A&M, Keller contributed to the recruitment of ESPN Top 100 players and orchestrated a top 10 recruiting class in 2015. Following his impactful tenure in Aggieland, Keller took over the head coach position at Stephen F. Austin, succeeding Brad Underwood, who transitioned to Oklahoma State. Keller’s time at SFA saw him amassing a stellar record of 171–95 and securing two regular season championships. Despite his success, he parted ways with SFA during his ninth season after a slow start.
Known for his stifling defense and unparalleled recruiting skills, Kyle Keller remains a prominent figure in the basketball community. His deep-rooted connections within the state and familiarity with local programs will undoubtedly support head coach Bucky McMillan in establishing a strong presence in the area.
Welcome back to Aggieland, Kyle Keller 👍
