LSU women's basketball landed a commitment from Kate Koval, one of the nation's top transfer portal prospects, on Monday. The rising sophomore announced the decision via a post on social media.
The pickup is the first of the spring window for head coach Kim Mulkey's team. Koval joins the Tigers after a standout freshman campaign at Notre Dame that landed her on the All-ACC Freshman Team.
A six-foot-five forward from Kyiv, Ukraine, Koval started 10 games, averaging 5.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per contest. She recorded 55 blocks in 2024-25 and came up big during the postseason, averaging 16 minutes off the bench in the ACC Tournament.
Koval was a McDonald's All-American and a top-five recruit in 2024. Multiple outlets ranked her as the No. 1 post player in the class. Notre Dame and LSU were her top two schools at the end of her recruiting journey. She's a proven rim protector and has the stamina to play for much of the game.
With Aneesah Morrow off to the WNBA and Sa'Myah Smith in the portal, the Tigers are in need of their next post presence. Koval's frame and abilities around the rim as well as familiarity with the LSU program make her poised for success under Mulkey's guidance.
