The New Orleans Saints may look to pick Ashton Jeanty in the first round, but they won’t have the chance to make that decision if Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek listens to his son.
How bad does the younger Spytek want the Raiders to pick Jeanty? The general manager revealed his young son “has made it no secret that if we don’t pick Ashton Jeanty at No. 6 that he’s walking out of the family and he's gonna find somebody else.” Abandoning the family over a prospect may seem extreme, but some Jeanty is clearly that special in his son’s eyes.
Pete Carroll probably wouldn’t object to this selection either. He found great success with Marshawn Lynch and Kenneth Walker III with the Seattle Seahawks. Setting up Carroll in his first year with a bellcow runner would give Carroll a familiar formula to lean into.
Spytek revealed his son is spreading the message beyond the home and “basically told Mark Davis if my dad doesn’t take him he’s doing a bad job.” At some point, the pressure of a 10-year old telling you who you have to pick is too much to ignore. It’s seemingly just the Saints and Raiders who would target Jeanty in the first 10 picks, so if he gets past sixth overall, the Saints will likely get their shot.
