Paris Saint-Germain have injected youth into their center-back position over the last two years with Lucas Beraldo and Willian Pacho. However, expect the capital club to pursue a defender this summer.

Presnel Kimpembe’s future is unknown, Marquinhos is well into his 30s now, Lucas Hernandez is trying to get back to his past form, and Milan Skriniar is likely being shipped off permanently; PSG needs to bolster that position with more youth.

Since last summer’s transfer window, the Parisians have been linked to various defenders, one of whom was SL Benfica’s Tomás Araújo. Could the capital club revisit this file in a few months?

In his latest column for PSG Talk Extra Time, Zach Lowy, a multimedia journalist for BBC, SiriusXM, and other outlets, revealed that the Parisians should be having Araújo again on their radar when the summer window opens in a few months.

“The Benfica academy product has emerged as a vital cog in central defense this season and has also proven capable of filling in at right back when required,” Lowy wrote.

“Thanks to his ability to build out from the back and cover large swaths of the pitch, Araújo has won a starting spot over António Silva and proven essential both in possession as well as in recovering and covering gaps in defense.

“Boasting impressive vision and a superb passing range, Araújo is technically gifted for his 6’2” frame, with his turning radius allowing him to evade pressure and avoid costly turnovers.”

If PSG should pursue Araújo again, they’ll face competition. In a January report, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Chelsea are one club with the defender on their radar to bolster their backline this summer.
