Position change suggested for Chelsea star who has just 3 G/A since October
There are whispers all over the internet that Chelsea are considering paying a penalty to cancel the permanent transfer clause in Jadon Sancho’s loan contract from Manchester United after being disappointed by his form this season.
We’re not sure how realistic those claims are, but they’re being taken seriously enough by the Sun, who asked Sancho’s former coach Dan Micciche about how the England international might fit in with Ruben Amorim’s system:
“Jadon would have to play as a left-sided No.10, I couldn’t see him play as a wing-back. Can he play there? Yeah, absolutely. I think he could play for Ruben Amorim in his system,” the coach said.
“It might actually suit him more – in terms of freeing him up. He wouldn’t be hugging the touchline as much, he would in middle of the pitch more and would have more options when he gets the ball.”
Position switch could help Sancho – but goal contributions are still lacking
It certainly would help out with Sancho’s lack of pace and explosiveness, which makes him a frustrating watch sometimes when he’s used out wide in this formation.
He’s got all of the technical skills to thrive in those small spaces too. But it might also just exaggerate his lack of impact in terms of goals and assists. Someone playing that role for any team needs to chip in, and Sancho’s underperformance in that regard has been consistent whichever team and position he’s been used in.
He’s got a combined 3 goals and assists since October – that’s pretty ugly viewing for a player in a strong side who has played very regularly. It’s no wonder the club are having second thoughts about buying him, and no wonder there’s talk of a position change.
