Strahinja Pavlovic was one of AC Milan’s best players against Udinese and after the game, he explained why the three-man backline worked so well for the Rossoneri.
Sergio Conceicao opted to switch formations for yesterday’s game, fielding Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia and Pavlovic together in a three-man backline. While Udinese had a couple of chances, it’s clear that the switch was incredibly successful for the Rossoneri.
Speaking to MilanTV after the game, as available on DailyMotion, Pavlovic explained why the three-man backline worked so well and what the win means for the team. The Serbian, as highlighted in our player ratings, was one of the best players on the pitch.
On the result..
“I’m happy, it was a different game, a different formation, and we did really well. We have to continue like this.”
On the clean sheet and formation…
“After a lot of games, we managed to keep a clean sheet. I think the manager did a good job by changing the formation, especially since Udinese send in a lot of crosses, and they have a really dangerous player in the aerial duels, Lucca. With our formation, they couldn’t cross a lot and they couldn’t make it difficult for us.”
On getting the win…
“In the last few months, we didn’t get good results and as such, a win like this one means a lot and it can help us a lot. We know that we have two difficult months coming up and of course, we want to win all of the games. We will fight,” he concluded.
It remains to be seen if Conceicao will continue with the three-man backline against Atalanta next week, but it certainly seems likely. Pavlovic will surely have a place from start then too, seeing as his ability to push forward works really well with a back three.
