Oklahoma State wrestling adds former NCAA champion Richard Figueroa via transfer portal

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State wrestling team has added former national champion Richard Figueroa to its roster via the transfer portal.

Figueroa, who won the 2024 Big 12 and NCAA titles at 125 pounds with Arizona State, made the official announcement on his X account Monday. This past season, he earned the No. 5 seed at the NCAA Championships, but went 1-2 and was eliminated.

Figueroa adds to a growing list of top recruits and transfer portal additions joining the Cowboys after coach David Taylor’s first season.

The Cowboys look to have a loaded roster at the lower weights, returning national finalist Troy Spratley at 125 and Tagen Jamison at 141, plus other contenders for starting roles.

In the lone piece of negative news for OSU wrestling, assistant coach Thomas Gilman, who left Penn State to join Taylor, is returning to the Nittany Lions’ staff, according to a report on the X account of The Wrestling Room.
