New York Giants choose dynamic talent over Shedeur Sanders in latest PFF mock draft

The 2025 NFL draft is a few short weeks away, and every NFL team is finalizing evaluations and solidifying their top choices.

The New York Giants are no different, and with the third overall pick in the draft, many believed they would select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. But then they signed both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, which could indicate that they're not looking for a quarterback at three.

In PFF's latest mock draft, the Giants select Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter.

There appears to be a growing sentiment that the Giants (and Browns) aren’t entirely sold on bringing in Shedeur Sanders. With Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston on the roster, New York secures the top overall prospect in the 2025 draft class in Colorado’s two-way superstar.

The Giants may profile as the best fit for Hunter, as he can play full-time at cornerback for them — providing an instant upgrade over former first-rounder Deonte Banks (50.3 PFF coverage grade in 2024) — and as a part-time complement to New York’s stable of receivers, highlighted by Malik Nabers.

The Giants' secondary could absolutely use Hunter's assistance. Deonte Banks has been underwhelming at best, recording just 52 tackles, one forced fumble, and 12 passes defensed in 14 games in 2024.

But it's not just his stats that are underwhelming, watching Banks on the field is frustrating. His clear lack of effort and watching him quit on plays while making millions of dollars to play a child's game is a clear sign of disrespect.

Bringing in Hunter, who very clearly puts in the effort playing on both sides of the ball, might be just what Banks needs to get his act together. And if not, well, Hunter can take his place.

The Giants previously said they may be willing to play Hunter on both sides of the ball, but they'll likely want him primarily in the secondary. Of course, this is all dependent on the Giants actually drafting Hunter, which is appearing more likely as the draft nears.
