Is New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll on the hot seat this season? That is not even in question after going 9-25 the past two seasons while not looking very good doing it.
Co-owner John Mara had every right to fire Daboll after last season, but chose to retain him along with general manager Joe Schoen. The prevailing thought there was that he was tired of all the hiring and firing of the past eight years and wanted to show some stability.
But that doesn't mean Daboll is getting a free pass. The Giants need to show marked improvement this coming season or Mara will have no other option than to make another change.
In a recent piece for FOX Sports, reporter Eric Williams ranked the 10 players and coaches under the most pressure heading into the 2025 NFL season. Daboll was ranked third overall and first among coaches.
Daboll and GM Joe Schoen have received a reprieve from Giants owner John Mara but must figure out how to quickly build a winning team. For now, that means bringing in veteran QB Russell Wilson to help revive one of the worst offenses in the league after failing to develop Daniel Jones and letting Saquon Barkley, the team's best player, go to New York's NFC East rival, where he helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl title. Daboll faces the challenging task of figuring out the quarterback position in the short term (Wilson) while also drafting a long-term answer at the position, whether that may be Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart or Jalen Milroe.
Daboll will finally get an established pro under center this season with Russell Wilson and the benefit of another rookie class consisting of some high picks. The Giants will likely get Daboll a bell cow running back and another weapon in the passing game to line up across from Malik Nabers.
The Giants are also intending on adding a young quarterback for Daboll to develop. Nothing but wins, however, will save Daboll this time around. It is correct to list him this high among the figures feeling pressure this fall.
