The Brooklyn Nets (24-51) have not been playing their best basketball since coming out of the All-Star Break as they are nearing the end of a season that will hopefully result in a high draft pick. Not only is Brooklyn going through some growing pains as some of the younger players are getting playing time, but the team is dealing with some critical injuries as well.
Prior to Monday's game at the Dallas Mavericks, head coach Jordi Fernandez gave an update on forwards Noah Clowney and Cam Johnson and center Day'Ron Sharpe. Per Meghan Triplett of YES Network, Fernandez said that Clowney, who is dealing with a right ankle sprain, is currently in a walking boot and will have his condition assessed when the team goes back home.
Clowney suffered his ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 115-112 win at the Washington Wizards after he came down on the foot of a player following his contest of a Wizards player's drive to the basket. Clowney had to be helped to the locker room so it makes sense that he needed to be in a walking boot given his struggles with ankle sprains this season.
Johnson, who is nursing a lower back contusion, is considered day-to-day by the team's medical staff, which makes sense given the hard fall that he sustained after driving to the basket Saturday in Washington. Johnson will be out of Brooklyn's lineup for Monday's game at the Mavericks, but it's possible that he could return for Thursday's home contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Finally, Sharpe, who has been dealing with a right knee sprain that has caused him to miss the last three games, is doing "stationary work" during his rehab to get back on the floor. Fernandez said that Sharpe will be assessed soon, but with the Nets having just seven games left, including Monday's game at Dallas, it's possible that Sharpe may not be able to make it back on the floor in time.
Fernandez said Cam Johnson (lower back contusion) is day-to-day.
