Nets' Cam Thomas addresses hamstring injury that could end his season
NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas recently suffered a left hamstring strain for the third time this season with this one potentially sidelining him for the rest of the season. While Brooklyn has said that Thomas is expected to miss the rest of the season, he hasn't officially been ruled out for the season yet so he took some time to address his situation.
"Yeah, I've been fine. Just, you know, taking everything in, staying present, just, accepting the reality that the season is over," Thomas said prior to Sunday's game against the Atlanta Hawks. Brooklyn's press release gave the impression that Thomas could have the chance of coming back towards the end of the season, but it seems like Thomas knows that the chance is slim to none.
"It actually happened before that. When I was driving down the court, that's when I felt it," Thomas explained. "So I just -- I just finished the play, but I really felt it like during, when I was driving up the floor in that play. So I think it was more so everybody looked at it and was like, it's really, really, just bad luck. It's an awkward position, you're never really ever in that position on the court, so it was just really bad luck at the end of the day. So there was nothing I could have really done to prevent that in some ways. So, it was tough."
Thomas suffered his left hamstring strain in Thursday's 116-110 loss at the Chicago Bulls during the last play of the game when he was trying to make a move to help the team mount a comeback. What makes the timing of Thomas' injury worse is that he was coming off one of the best games of his career to the tune of 24 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists, notching the first double-double of his four-year career.
Moving forward, Thomas will be going into the offseason as a restricted free-agent and if HoopsHype's Michael Scotto's commentary serves as any indication, Thomas' market value will be not be revealed until much later. For the time being, the focus will be if the Nets end up bringing back Thomas and if they do, for what price given what how much time he missed this season.
