Nebraska softball defeats Iowa Hawkeyes in five innings

Nebraska softball (27-9, 7-2) visited Iowa City for a three-game conference series with the Iowa Hawkeyes (21-13, 3-5) on Friday night. The Huskers started the series off with a big shutout win, taking down Iowa 12-0 in five innings.

This is Nebraska’s 17th run-rule victory of the season, tying a program record set in 2015. It also snatched its seventh shutout of the year. 

The Huskers struck big in the second, scoring six runs to go up 6-0. Nebraska's momentum only carried from there, adding six more runs across the next three innings to get the five-inning shutout.

Jordyn Bahl commanded the Huskers in the win, shutting down the Hawkeyes from both the pitching circle and batter's box. Bahl (15-3) struck a grand slam in the second inning to go 1-for-2 with a career-high four RBIs. She also threw a complete-game shutout, firing eight strikeouts and allowing three hits.

Nebraska finished with just seven hits on the day but for 11 RBIs while also drawing 10 walks. Lauren Camenzind hit 3-for-3 on the night while also tying a career-high three RBIs. 

Ava Kuszak popped up a sacrificial fly that resulted in two RBIs, while Olivia DiNardo and Bella Bacon each chipped in an RBI double. 

The Huskers will play Iowa in game two on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.
