Nebraska baseball pulls away to beat Rutgers in 10-5 win

The Nebraska baseball team (14-17, 4-7) faced Rutgers (14-17, 4-7) for the second game in its conference series on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers once again managed to fend off the Scarlet Knights, taking the series with a 10-5 win.

Nebraska jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fourth, scoring five runs in the set before Rutgers cut the lead to one in the sixth. The Huskers stood strong though, adding four unanswered runs across their final three innings at-bat to get the win.

Nebraska tallied 12 hits and two home runs for 10 RBIs in the win. Rutgers finished with six hits.

Tyler Stone earned a team-high three RBIs, hitting a two-run home run in the fourth and an RBI double in the eighth. Max Buettenback also struck a two-run home run in the fourth off his lone hit in the game.

Case Sanderson delivered two RBIs, hitting a sacrificial grounder in the third and an RBI single in the fourth.

Cayden Brumbaugh finished 2-for-5 with two RBI. Joshua Overbeek hit 3-for-4 with an RBI. Will Jesske earned one hit for RBI, going 1-for-1 on the day.

Ty Horn got the start, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing four runs, four hits and five walks. Jalen Worthley (2-0) got the win after pitching the next 2.2 innings. He threw one strikeout and surrendered two hits and one run. Ryan Harrahill pitched the final 2.0 innings, punching out two batters in his shutout.

The Huskers wrapped up the series with Rutgers on Sunday. The first pitch is set for noon on B1G+.
