Nebraska baseball takes series over No. 5 Oregon State following massive rally in 16-7 win

Nebraska (12-15) faced off with No. 5 Oregon State (20-6) for the final game of the weekend series on Sunday. The Huskers responded to being blown out Saturday, upsetting the Beavers once more 16-7 in eight innings to take the series, their first weekend series win over a top-five opponent since 2011.

Nebraska almost slipped, heading into the bottom of the seventh down 7-6 after Oregon State scored four straight. But with two outs on, the Huskers scored nine runs, capitalizing off miscues by the Beavers to take the lead and eventual win.

Nebraska's season-high 16 runs came off a season-high 14 hits and one error, while Oregon State racked up nine hits and two errors.

Tyler Stone led the Huskers at the plate, hitting 3-for-5 for three RBIs. Stone drove in a solo home run in the second, before striking a two RBI single in the seventh. Will Jesske and Max Buettenback also tallied three RBIs, each crushing a three-run home run.

Hogan Helligso recorded his first home run as a Husker as well, ending the game in the eighth. Riley Silva finished 3-for-4 on the afternoon with an RBI while Cayden Brumbaugh drove in a pair of RBIs off his lone hit in the seventh. Case Sanderson and Joshua Overbeek also posted one hit and RBI apiece.

Luke Broderick (2-0) got the win after pitching 0.2 innings in the seventh. Jackson Brockett started at the mound for the Huskers, firing four strikeouts while allowing three runs on four hits and two walks across 3.1 innings. Casey Daiss took over and pitched 1.2 shutout frames against one hit.

Caleb Clark pitched the entirety of the sixth and started the seventh, surrendering three runs off three hits. Gavin Blachowicz closed out the game for Nebraska, going three-up, three-down in the eighth.

The Huskers remain home to welcome in-state Creighton on Tuesday night in the first of two single-game clashes this season. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.
